It happens so rarely though.

Lacey - I thought your MC was going to be a boy too! I need to be braver and write before I know where it's going because wow that worked for you with Greyskin!

Kathi - I do all my best thinking in the shower! I think it's the white noise of the water.

Becca - Ooh, your WIP sounds really intriguing!Valerie Kemphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05795714434618357955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740020593647189165.post-29029488882014090522010-07-14T17:42:55.533-04:002010-07-14T17:42:55.533-04:00My WIP, FAKE, which is the most vivid and urgent t...My WIP, FAKE, which is the most vivid and urgent thing I've written so far, came from my obsession four or five years ago with sites like MySpace. I just thought about how many people make accounts on these sites and totally reinvent themselves, or (in my case) create a monster and get really addicted to being someone else. I'd never read anything like this, or even heard of it being written about. So, yes, I wrote what I wanted to read :)Rebecca Christiansenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03635706076314669496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740020593647189165.post-54185501320291036582010-07-14T14:11:35.912-04:002010-07-14T14:11:35.912-04:00I'm with you. Though, the kernel of an idea can happen any where, any time. Many of mine have come while I'm in the shower. Maybe it's the steam. :)Kathi Oram Petersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11959149321213743448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740020593647189165.post-55293313692278756332010-07-14T10:03:08.212-04:002010-07-14T10:03:08.212-04:00I love that quote.

GREYSKIN started with an opening line and I had no idea where I was going to go with it or who my MC was. Originally, I had thought it would be a boy. Instead, she's a tomboy.
Sometimes your own creations surprise you.Lacey J Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17930985573303127061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740020593647189165.post-69840064090912607712010-07-14T09:49:52.651-04:002010-07-14T09:49:52.651-04:00As my dreams aren't often based in reality--th...As my dreams aren't often based in reality--this reality anyway--I'm driven to write about what I've experienced. BOUND and my shiny new idea came from intense dreams--I knew I HAD to write them when I woke up. I definitely agree with that quote.

Actually, I thought the dreams would be awesome movies, but since I'm not a screenwriter I'm turning them into books instead. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05255908019822363456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740020593647189165.post-68625669281008338102010-07-14T08:51:55.292-04:002010-07-14T08:51:55.292-04:00You make a great point but I'm not sure I can ...You make a great point but I'm not sure I can enlighten your readers any further. I've only written one novel and the idea sort of came about like this:

"What if that reform school I went to as a kid had been awesome instead of sucking? What if they had taught us Kung-Fu and Calligraphy instead of how to dig ditches?"

There's more to the story now of course, but that is how it all started.

I guess for me that means that my ideas come from twisting my own reality into something cooler - or at least this one did.

Thanks Valerie!Matthew MacNishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03264738483763244969noreply@blogger.com
