The Post that Wasn't There

Like most of you, I'm still on vacation this week and my 5-year-old son has discovered the joy that is the Wii. Okay, I'll admit that I'm right there with him in the joy department which is why this would be the week that I would typically re-post a brilliant tidbit from Decembers past. The problem is that since we only started this consistent blogging thing a few weeks ago - I got nothing. So, I'll tell you what I've read so far this holiday break and I'd love to hear what you're reading as well. In the last week and a half, I've read:

The Book Thief (well, I finished most of it before the break but I'm still
counting it - also, it was beyond amazing)

Hush, Hush (loved it and it was the perfect fun read I needed after the
former one)

2 metaphysical books which would probably bore most people so I won't
mention them but they were fabulous

The Heretic's Daughter (I'm currently reading this for my book club and
find it fascinating so far. However, it's hard for me to dislike
historical fiction and I do love me some witches)

Wake (Next on my list for this week and I'm hoping to get to it before
vacation ends)

I know one of my blogging colleagues who shall remain nameless (cough*Lacey*cough) has probably read about 20 books in the same time that it's taken me to read these, but she has super freaky reading powers. What about you? Have you read any good books over the holiday break?

I'll be back to regular posts next week but if you'll excuse me, I have to go redeem myself as I just got my a#$ kicked by a 5-year-old in Wii bowling!

  1. I'm getting close to the end of Beautiful Creatures. The unraveling mystery is nice, but I hope things get wrapped up in this book and not later on in the series! (I'm not that patient.)

  2. Ha! I've been seriously slacking. I was expecting to host Christmas eve and I planned and prepared for that for three days, and at the last minute we had a change of plans and I went to PA for the holiday. Didn't get much reading done.

    I read (this month):
FALLEN --which I suggest you read Kristi. The tone of the book reminded me a little of yours.
BEAUTIFUL CREATURES--great read by two great women. Who doesn't love a Gothic southern romance between a boy and a caster girl?

and I am now reading THE DARK DIVINE and so far I absolutely love it.

Kristi, I read WAKE. It was a really good read. FADE was a little darker but I still enjoyed it. I forget I'm reading YA with those.

I've been wanting to read THE BOOK THIEF. It takes place during WWII right? I need to read more of those to get mine right, lol.

    Happy Reading!

  3. Oh, and my five year old also got a WII and she LOVES the Yoga on WII fit, lol

  4. Anna, a good portion of it gets wrapped up, but some things are left unanswered. I felt it had a satisfying ending. I have a brief review of it on my other blog if you wanted to discuss it :)

  5. Lacey - you should definitely read The Book Thief. It moved onto my top 5 books of all time and that includes literary as well as YA. It's amazing and I bet you'll get something out of it for your ms.

I'll read Fallen after Wake - thanks for the tip.

I didn't know the Wii Fit had yoga - I'm gonna have to check that out!

  6. Like I said on the Nathan Bransford Forums, I just finished Hush, Hush yesterday and loved it to! It was a great read. Some really fantastic twists to it. I'll be reviewing it on my blog tomorrow.

  8. Hi! I read Her Fearful Symmetry and LOVED it. May pick it for bookclub but I know at least one other person also already read it. I did read The Heretic's Daughter and liked it, though parts dragged (like when they're all in prison, ok get on with it already) but overall liked it. The Book Theif is next on my list but I am having trouble picking it up, I tried to read it before and had to put it down... books where bad things happen to kids I just have trouble stomaching. But I will read it.

  9. Kim - I've heard good things about Her Fearful Symmetry and if you pick it for book club then I'll have to read it!

  10. Oh, I LOVED the Book Thief. Truly brilliant. Wake is fun, and a quick read--I read it all in one sitting while the husband napped :)

  11. I think I need to get The Book Theif, then!
I've seen Her Fearful Symmetry. Is it YA?

  12. Lacey - I'm not sure but my friend doesn't read much YA so I'm guessing not.

  13. I've had The Book Thief sitting on my shelf waiting for me for months now. I really should read it. I've never heard anyone say a bad word about it. I really liked HUSH, HUSH and WAKE grew on me once I got used to the spare 3rd person present tense. I need to check out FADE.

I've read a few this month.

I HEART YOU, YOU HAUNT ME
    GIVE UP THE GHOST
    THE MAZE RUNNER
    CANDOR

I liked them all, with Candor being my favorite. I'm in the middle of WHEN IT HAPPENS right now. A contemporary teen romance, which I so rarely read. It's fun. I'm not going to make my goal of 100 books this year though. Still 80 isn't bad.

I love Wii! You just reminded me I should really be using it more. I got the Wii Fit Plus for Christmas and haven't even tried it out yet!

  14. Valerie is the one with super-freaky reading powers! I'm just going to make 50 books this year.

I was curious about CANDOR and GIVE UP THE GHOST. I'll have to check them out.

I had the same reaction to WAKE. I'm not a big fan of the tense, but it was a good story, so I got past it.

  15. Lacey - Only 50 books? Sorry, that counts as super freaky. I wish I could get through that many. I'm hoping to get to WAKE this weekend - once I finish Valerie's edits in my ms:)
