Speak Loudly

We don't usually post on Sunday, but I wanted to let you all know:

It's September and the book banners are at it again. Being challenged this time is SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson - the story of a girl trying to move on after she'd been raped by a classmate. Book banner calls it "soft porn" when there's no sex in the book! Spread the word and fight book banning. #speakloudly

Visit Laurie's blog for more on the conflict and to share your thoughts on the book:

  1. Just read another post about this. Thank you for bringing it into the spotlight. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???

  2. I have no idea. It's disturbing that anyone would view rape as "soft core porn".

  3. I've worked with many rape survivors and this is disturbing on so many levels. It's amazing how ignorant some people are. Sad.

  5. I also put something on my FB regarding this issue. As well as commented on another blog spot where concerns were raised for the banning.
If you are interested in reading an article that defaces the value of this wonderful book, go to http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20109180307 and read what this man has to say about Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.
Honestly, I do not thing that this man even read the book!
There is also, what I think to be, ridiculous assumptions on the lessons being taught to children in our school regarding sex education in the above mentioned article.
After you have read the article, if you haven't already, come back and repost. It would be interesting to see what everyone has to say.
Your post has been heard (I suppose I should say read, however, taking the the subject matter into account...:)
