Summertime!

Like Kristi, I've been slacking a little lately. Or distancing myself from my WIP, rather. Yes. That.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Weekend! Mine was a success. With my grilling skills, yes, but I mean with my summer-spot hunting. New York is a very crowded place. I don't think a spot exists within the city limits that is not cluttered with people.

Except this one.

And I like you, I really do. But I'm not telling you where this is because it is MINE! Precious.

It is a part of the beach near my house. (I live on an island. Sounds exotic. It's not.) Apparently, not a lot of folks like to hang out on the beach that has more shells than sand and smells like dead sea creatures because the tide comes in and drops them off in shallow pools for the birds to eat. But I like it just fine. Because it is EMPTY! Seriously, I felt like I spent the afternoon in a Dystopian novel. Or like I'd turn a corner and see Mary chopping the head off of a water-logged Mudo.

There were a few inhabitants.

But they're really very quiet. I do believe I've found my new writing spot. Have you a favorite hideaway?

  1. I love your little beach and will have to come visit for BEA one of these years!

My fave hideaway is up in the mountains here in Colorado. I love going up to a cabin for the weekend and hiking and writing. I love the beach but only get there once a year (and I read more than write while there). :)

  2. Ooh, I wish I had a mountain retreat close to home! I much prefer to be surrounded by trees than on the shore, but I take what I can get, lol!

You will definitely have to come for BEA one of these years. I'd love to come over there for one of the retreats!

  3. Lacey--I think there's still one spot left for the 5-day retreat I'm doing in the mountains this Oct. Come write with me! Anica Rissi is one of the editors who will be there, and Scott Hoffman just blows me away.

  4. I would LOOOOOVE to, but I can't leave my family. I have nobody to watch my kids while my husband works and he can't take off. One of these days, though!

  5. Yeah, it's during my kids' fall break from school, so the kids will be home and my hubby has to take all that time off work. You'll have to make it out here sometime though...the mountains are beautiful!

  7. LIsa, Lol! If my four-year-old didn't scare them, I'm sure you'd be okay. I think. I hope.
