So this week I'm pointing you to an awesome post on
Avoiding Melodrama by Writing Deeper from
Adventures in Children's Publishing.
This post is one of the best I've seen on explaining melodrama and cliché, and how you might be using them without even realizing it. Need proof? Here's the opening quote for the post. It literally stopped me dead in my tracks and lightbulbs went on when I re-read and absorbed it.
"Beware of clichés. Not just the clichés that Martin Amis is at war with. There are clichés of response as well as expression. There are clichés of observation and of thought – even of conception. Many novels, even quite a few adequately written ones, are clichés of form which conform to clichés of expectation." ~ Geoff DyerWhat are you waiting for? Go. Read. Learn.
Thank you so much for spreading the word on this post! Isn't that an amazing quote?
