Flirting with the Enemy

Not so long ago, I shared my tragic news with you about my husband crossing over to the dark side. At the time, I reported I was sleeping with the enemy. Well, the iPad2 arrived at our house last week...
...and um, I kinda like it. Don't get me wrong. I'm totally not cheating on my books because I don't use it for reading, but I'll admit to browsing the app store when no one's looking. My hubby downloaded some games onto it for my 4 and 7-yo, and the graphics are amazing. Seriously, my son hasn't touched the Wii once since we got it.

It also has two cameras and you can do weird special effects with them (well, I can't--I barely understand my point and click camera), but my hubby snapped this pic of me when I wasn't paying attention. I'm not actually blue, green, and red in real life. Also, notice how hard I'm working on revisions:

But my favorite thing happened when my hubby opened up a bookcase app and showed me my books sitting on his "shelf." He even had them bookmarked. He also got the Kindle app, and bought The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, one of my all-time favorite books. For him, the device is convenient and more conducive to reading on the go. Though I still prefer old-school books and don't know if I'll ever read one on the iPad, I get that this works better for him. Basically, I've warmed up to the idea of having this device in my home...and even enjoy playing around on it. You won't tell him, right?

Anyone else out there who's an unwilling convert to new technology? Anyone else's kids forgo the Wii for some Fruit Ninja iPad action?

  1. I converted to Mac after forever as a Windows girl. And my mum getting a kindle kind of made me want one too. I haven't succumbed yet, but I may if my bookshelves overflow more than they already are. lol.

  2. Lindsay--I heart my Macbook. Also, I can see myself writing a post someday that begins "Remember when I said I'd NEVER read on an e-reader..." :)

  3. I admit, that one does tempt me. Husband has been telling me how great it would be for work. Work, you know. Not fun. Not books. Work, I can maybe understand.

  4. Yeah, he claims it's for "work" as well, because it has a music recording program that he uses for his songwriting. I still maintain it's not a necessity though. :)

  5. I just got the iPad 2 last week. I don't like ebooks but the iBooks app is awesome! And I can get library books on here! Once you buy Lego Harry Potter, you'll be hooked for hours. And I'm a big fan of Fruit Ninja. :)

I'm using my iPad to write this, hee hee!

  8. LOL! I just got a Nook Color not long ago and I have to say, it doesn't even play many games yet (although crosswords are cool) and I kind of love looking at my books on my bookshelves! The ipad looks like fun. Maybe one day.

  9. I have a Nook. I read a lot of books on it. I still love going to the bookstore and I have a huge bookshelf of real books that I fill up anyway. For me it's kind of both. But since I travel a lot, Nook is useful--like now I'm in Peru and it was cool to not have 30 heavy books to bring with me in order to survive the three month trip. I can also get my dad to buy books over there on Nook and I get them here. I still brought like 8 paper books.
I was reluctant to admit it but I played with a Nook in the store and couldn't deny that...Nook is cool. And I was shrieking with excitement when I got one for Christmas. It's awesome. I <3 my Nook :)

  10. It's great that you read paper books too. I know some people with e-readers who don't read anything other than e-books anymore. Right now, my son still prefers real books to the picture books my hubby downloaded for him. We'll see if that lasts.
